Explore the Amazing Middle School Electives at MGCS!
At Myrtle Grove Christian School, middle school students get to explore their interests and discover new talents through a wide variety of electives. From the arts to academics to hands-on projects, there truly is something for everyone!
Students choose one elective for the semester, giving them the chance to dig in deeply before deciding whether to continue or try something new next term. This structure allows them to stretch, grow, and sometimes even surprise themselves with new passions.
This fall, our middle school elective lineup includes:
- Art – Our new art teacher has students working on exciting projects like still creating designs with positive and negative spaces and learning about pen and ink techniques and textures.
- Media Makers – This elective is all about student storytelling! From creating content for our digital display boards to publishing the Warrior Word middle school newsletter, these middle schoolers keep our community informed with student council news, sports updates, features on new students, and more. - Gardening – Students tend to the school’s community vegetable garden and help care for our chickens. As one student said, “I feel like my heart blooms with the plants in gardening.”
- Science Olympiad & STEM Workshop – Budding scientists and engineers put their creativity to the test through challenges, experiments, and problem-solving.
- Drama – Students are stepping into the spotlight and building confidence as they prepare performances together.
- Book Club – Readers are diving into The Chronicles of Narnia, sparking thoughtful discussion and imagination. When asked about her passion for reading, one student quoted Charles Dickens, “Whether I shall turn out to be the hero of my own life, or whether that station will be held by anybody else, these pages must show.”
- Worship Band & Melody Makers Choral Ensemble – Student musicians are using their gifts to lead in worship and song. Melody Makers will perform The Star Spangled Banner at our upcoming Veterans’ Day Chapel. The Worship Band recently led worship in chapel for both the Lower and Middle School.
- Fantasy Football – Yes, even sports strategy finds a place in our electives, as students track stats and sharpen their teamwork skills.
Electives at MGCS are more than just classes. Electives create opportunities for students to discover how God has uniquely gifted them, build community with their peers, and find joy in learning outside the traditional classroom.
