Serving Humbly in Love through MGCS Community Service

The 2025–2026 academic year at MGCS brought an exciting and impactful initiative: engaging every K–8 grade in meaningful service learning. Guided by Jesus’s words in Galatians 5:13 “Serve one another humbly in love,” we aim to help our students develop hearts for serving those around them.

Students across all grades have embraced opportunities to make a tangible difference in their community. Our youngest learners beautified the MGCS campus, while first graders brought joy to residents of Brightmoor Assisted Living through caroling. Second graders contributed to Operation Christmas Child and created cheer-up cards for foster children at the NC Baptist Children’s Home for Easter. Third graders supported soldiers through stocking donations, and fourth graders served at First Fruit Ministries by helping in the food pantry and assisting with yardwork. Fifth graders crafted looms for hats, sixth graders participated in a beach sweep, seventh graders offered their time and care at Peaceful Pastures, and our eighth graders served at the Special Olympics during both the Fall and Spring Games. Through these experiences, our students not only met real needs but also learned to serve with humility, compassion, and love.

Galatians 5:13 as the Anchor for Our Initiative

Serve – We want students to see that service is more than a feeling; it’s an action. Students will step outside themselves to meet needs in our school, local community, and beyond. Every act, no matter the size, matters.

One Another – Service begins close to home. Students learn to see the needs around them—peers, teachers, neighbors, or family—and ask, “How can I help?” Building community starts with those right in front of us.

Humbly – True service is done without seeking recognition, applause, or reward. Our students learn to reflect Christ’s heart by putting others’ needs ahead of their own.

In Love – Love is the motivation behind every act of service. Jesus didn’t serve for His own glory; He served out of love. Students are encouraged to act with compassion, kindness, and a servant’s heart, knowing that love is what makes service meaningful.

Our initiative is designed not just to fulfill volunteer hours, but to cultivate lifelong habits of humility, love, and service. By keeping Galatians 5:13 as our guiding verse, every project, effort, and act of service is tied to God’s calling to love and serve one another.

At MGCS, we are committed to nurturing not only the minds of our students but also their hearts. Our community service and outreach programs are a tangible way to live out our faith, emphasizing compassion, stewardship, and hands-on participation. From helping neighbors and caring for animals to supporting soldiers and Special Olympics athletes, our students are learning what it means to serve humbly in love and shining Christ’s light in every act.
