Student Support

Student Support Overview

The Myrtle Grove Christian School Student Support Team (SST) is composed of an academic team, school counselor, school nurse, and safety officer, who work alongside administrators, teachers, and families to meet the needs of individual students. Depending on their needs, students may receive academic and/or social-emotional support. The academic team strives to provide high quality instruction through a tiered support system, while the school counselor assists students with skills and strategies to address social, emotional, and behavioral needs. The goal of the SST is to help all students grow towards their fullest potential, while fostering their love of learning and their heart for the Lord.

Academic Student Support

At MGCS, students may receive differentiated instruction, academic interventions, and/or accommodations, depending on their individual needs. Students can receive instructional support through four different tiers. All determinations of student support are based on data and documented student needs, while using a team problem solving approach to decision making.

Tier 1: Core Instruction

All students receive grade level instruction from their classroom teacher(s). Instruction is comprehensive and covers all subjects, using school-wide adopted curriculum and ensuring a supportive classroom environment. Teachers may differentiate instruction within the regular classroom setting, as needed.

Tier 2: Supplemental Classroom Support

Students receive interventions and/or accommodations from their classroom teacher(s), teacher assistant, and/or SST Interventionist, in addition to core instruction. Interventions occur in a small group setting and are determined based on data. Accommodations may vary by student and are based on documented individual needs. Supplemental support is available to Pre-K and K-8 students.

Tier 3: Intensive Tutoring

Students are pulled out of class for interventions with an SST Tutor, in addition to core instruction. Students receive targeted, individualized instruction in a one-to-one setting, based on data and demonstrated need in specific academic areas. Tutoring is available to students in grades K-8, and sessions are typically 45-60 minutes. There is an additional fee for services.

Timothy Program

Students are pulled out of class for core instruction in ELA/Reading and/or Math with an SST Timothy Program Teacher. Students receive specialized instruction, either in a small group or one-to-one setting, for the entire core block. Timothy Program placements are determined by data, individual student need, and documented learning differences. A psychological evaluation and official diagnosis or IEP is required. The Timothy Program is available to students in grades 2-8. There is an additional tuition requirement for services.
