Equipped To Serve

Glenn Pleasant serves as our Lower School Principal and Director of Admissions.  He also teaches 6th grade social studies.  Several years ago, Glenn began pursuing an M.Ed. in curriculum, instruction and supervision at UNCW.  Course work completed and thesis project defended, Glenn will walk to receive his degree on May 6th.  Here are some thoughts from Glenn about this accomplishment.

With a full time job and growing children, why take on graduate school?

The short answer is that an advanced degree equips me to better serve MGCS students and staff and to lead more effectively. My studies prepared me to assess, review and develop curriculum that will continue to support our mission.  Because education is a rapidly changing field, it’s critical to stay current.  I am now better positioned to evaluate trends in curriculum, supervision, instruction, and research.

What are the “takeaways” from the journey?

In spite of all the changes in education, the basics of instruction remain the same.  The foundation for instruction is still the relationship between the teacher and the student and the partnership between the teacher, the family and the school.

Leadership begins at the top. I have a responsibility to MGCS to provide strong leadership and am confident this degree has prepared me to do just that.  Leaders set the standard.  The leader must set the bar high then equip the team to reach that goal.

MGCS is a family.  So many MGCS families prayed for and encouraged me throughout the process.  The staff has been behind me all the way.  Even my 6th graders cheered me on.  The day after my thesis defense, I walked into class and the first thing the students said was, “How did you do, Mr. Pleasant?”  What a blessing to be a part of this community.
