Spring Break in Kenya
“We always thank God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, when we pray for you, because we have heard of your faith in Christ Jesus and the love you have for all the saints-the faith and love that spring from the hope that is stored up for you in heaven and that you have already heard about in the work of truth, the gospel that has come to you. All over the world, this gospel is producing fruit and growing …”
Colossians 1: 3-6a
Many of you have had the pleasure of meeting our new art teacher, Brooks Koff, but do you know where she will be spending her spring break? On April 10, our own Mrs. K will lead a team of 7 folks from Port City Community Church to Mama Hellen’s Rehabilitation Center in Nakuru, Kenya. Here 80 kids live and attend school at the newly built Primary school and the established Secondary school. Port City has been partnering with Bishop Jackson Mwangi for about nine years to provide a home for kids who would otherwise be living on the streets after parents’ deaths or inability to care for them.
Mrs. K and her team will provide a VBS-type program for the week. They will use large group talks and small groups as well and lots of games, activities, and fun to share God’s word and His love with the residents. The team will spend Easter Sunday with the children then return to the US, rejoicing all the way home.
“I have been blessed to visit Mama Hellen’s several times. Each time, I’m amazed by the joy and faith these children have. Were you to read their bios, you would wonder how this could be. The love of Christ flows through them and is a joy to behold. Through this partnership, I can see how believers in Wilmington can be used by God to change lives in Kenya. What an awesome opportunity to be a part of what God is doing there. I am so looking forward to sharing this mission with my youngest daughter and the rest of our team!”
God’s truth transcends all cultures and circumstances. He is our hope whether we attend MGCS in Wilmington or Mama Hellen’s Rehabilitation Center and school in Nakuru. Please join us in praying for Mrs. Koff and her team as they spend their Spring Break with our brothers and sisters in Kenya.
