Scott Stier’s MGCS Story

MEET SCOTT STIER: MGCS ALUMNUS

I attended MGCS from 3-year-old preschool through 9th grade (1988-2001).  I attended Ashley High School, and then went on to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where I graduated with a double-major in Business Administration and Spanish.  In 2012, I graduated from Liberty University School of Law in Lynchburg, Virginia, with a Juris Doctorate degree.  After law school, I moved to Texas and passed the Texas Bar Exam.  For the past two years, I have worked for a state representative in the Texas Legislature.  It has been a great 13 years, and MGCS helped make it all possible.  My time at MGCS prepared me for success academically, socially, and spiritually.

ACADEMICALLY

I graduated from high school 3rd in my class of 301 students. I owe much of my academic success to the top-notch foundation I received at MGCS. The curriculum provides an above-average, rigorous education. The teachers challenge students to do things they may not believe possible. This preparation helps build student confidence when faced with academic hurdles they will encounter in AP high school courses, college courses, and intense graduate school courses. MGCS academics helped me believe that I could meet and overcome any academic obstacles that came my way. I am forever grateful for that lasting gift.

SOCIALLY

In High School, I was elected Student Body President, and I thoroughly enjoyed serving with my classmates. This would not have happened without the confidence MGCS fostered in me.  MGCS gave me opportunities to lead on a daily basis.  In middle school, I was able to play guitar on the MGCS worship team.  I also played on the tennis team for four years and played on the basketball team for three years. My experience in each of these extra-curricular activities taught me valuable social skills, leadership skills and the value of collaboration.  These opportunities prepared me to step-out and get involved in the “bigger pond” of a large public high school. MGCS gives students leadership experience so that upon graduation, they are ready to make a positive difference in academic, professional, and social settings for years to come.

SPIRITUALLY

MGCS is far more than a nominally Christian school.  Rather, Christian faith permeates every aspect of the school.  Thus, students are spiritually mentored on a daily basis, and are given the chance to strengthen their personal relationships with the Lord throughout the school day.  I loved how each class began with a time of prayer.  I can’t tell you how powerful that is for your kids.  Praying regularly throughout the day becomes your kids’ expectation, and then hopefully, a lifetime discipline.  After leaving MGCS, I continually reflected upon my in-class prayers and recalled the peace that came from committing my academic workdays to the Lord.  I often tell people – nearly 15 years later – that half the Scripture I know today I learned as an MGCS student.

I still strive to memorize Scripture, but it is remarkable how many Scriptures I committed to memory in the classrooms at 806 Piner Road.

Prospective parents, I encourage you to choose MGCS for your children.  Current MGCS parents, be encouraged to keep your child at MGCS because the final harvest is well worth your investment now. To current MGCS students, I encourage you to keep working diligently, knowing that MGCS is helping prepare you for your road ahead!  May God bless you and your children’s lives. It is all for His Kingdom!
